February 23 -25, 2009

I was so excited to touch down in Kenya, my second home! Jan and Lynette were there to pick up Cheri Peters and myself.

After a good nights sleep and repacking, we headed off to Narok where we would spend the night and then on to Siana. I was dreading the three hour drive over the horrid roads -- broken tarmac, dusty ruts -- bumping until black and blue everywhere. But, surprise, they have improved the roads -- at least a bit. Cheri was amazed as we traveled down from Nairobi into the great Rift Valley. Stopping in Suswa, we connected with Julius, an MDP lay pastor stationed there. He climbed in the vehicle and off we went to see his church. A group out of Great Britian had begun building the church. It is a beautiful block building overlooking the vast plain with the mountains in the distance. Unfortunately before the windows, doors, and cement floor could be installed the man heading the group was killed in a car accident and now all is at a stand still. For only $750 US the cement floor can be poured. What a blessing that would be for the worshipers as now they must walk on large chunks of stone and balast, balancing the few homemade benches as they worship.

Continuing on, we arrived at Narok, unloaded our luggage just as the large rain drops pelted down and a storm hit.

The next morning we were off to Siana Primary School, again the dusty bumpy roads were traveled for several hours. Arriving we discovered they were gathering the necessary generator, speakers, and amplifier so that Cheri Peters could speak to the students. After much waiting on our part, and preparation from them, it was time for her to speak. The students enjoyed her story, but the women teachers were moved the most as she spoke. Coming to her afterwards they asked many questions and requested prayer, with one of them accepting Christ and making a strong commitment to Him. They could certainly identify with her, as manyof them had experienced abuse in their lives. What miracles transpired before our very eyes as Cheri prayed for them and the Holy Spirit filled their hearts.

MDP sponsors 9 girls and 1 boy at Siana Primary School. Gathering the children together we gave them, one by one, adorable Christmas packets. They received bright colored shirts with the MDP logo on the front, matching their favorite color of each child. Each child also received a pen with MDP's name and address on it, as well as a colorful journal. What smiles spread over the faces and how the eyes sparkled as they received their packets. We received the names of 8 more children that are in desperate need of sponsors. If you are interested, please check out the sponsorship page on our web site.
